Author Louis Sachar will be making a stop at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville to celebrate the 10th anniversary.  HOLES might sound familiar to you if you have had children or grandchildren in your life during the last decade. HOLES as also adapted for the big screen so it should not be a unknown.

Something Wicked is being released for publication today

The third installment in the Gregory Maguire unique Return to Oz books is available for purchase today.  A LION AMONG MEN is the cub that was rescued by Elphaba’s story.  The first book WICKED was the inspiration for the long running Broadway and touring musical WICKED.  The second book SON OF A WITCH continued that story and now A LION AMONG MEN is the third installment in THE WICKED YEARS series.   

If you have seen the stage production of WICKED you should read the book because they are not the same.  Starting with the first of THE WICKED YEARS books WICKED is a great way to return to Oz for those of us that grew up there.  But remember this is a very different tale conjured in the mind of author Gregory Maguire do not expect the story you read in Frank Baum’s books.

First of all have we all told Oprah we are glad that she is still doing so much for the book world.  When she speaks people listen and that is good for the publishing world.  Thanks Oprah.

Just in case you have not been near the Internet or TV her next pick is EDWARD SAWTELLE.  It seems like she is jumping on this bandwagon because this book has received rave reviews from all over the place and is expected to appear on many best of lists for ’08.

book, THE FIFTH FLOOR.   This Chicago author has done it again with his second book.  He is the creator, writer and producer of TVs Cold Case and has many stories in his head to share with us.  Michael is touring with the release of this book and you should make time to stop by and say hello at the Borders in Oak Brook, IL on Wednesday, September 3rd at 7:00 pm.

Stephanie Kuehnert writes for your teens

Chicago author Stephanie Kuehnert will read from her new teen novel, I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at Thomas Ford Memorial Library, 800 Chestnut St., Western Springs. The program is free and open to the public but is a PG-13 event. For more information, call (708) 246-0520.

Stephanie’s book has received rave reviews so if you have a teen that likes to read by all means do not miss this night out.  If your teen has not gotten the reading bug, maybe a trip to this event to meet Stephanie and hear about this hip read will do the trick.  Either way you should plan to come out.

With the release of his third book Marcus is just getting comfortable with his role as writer.  He is a great guy and we can assure you if you head out to meet him at Borders in Oak Broolk you will be glad you did.

 

The fun starts at 7:30 pm and he will stay till he signs every copy of GOOD PEOPLE purchased.  Come out and meet this author before Hollywood calls and you can say you knew him when.  His books have been optioned by some pretty impressive production companies in Hollywood.  How exciting!

Rick Kogan has something to say about two Chicago crime writers

If you are a fan of Rick’s then you have already seen this piece from Sunday’s Chicago Tribune  Magazine.  If you do not read Rick’s regularly,  then treat yourself to this piece which is found on the web. 

In the process you will most surely want to run out and buy a book penned by Marcus Sakey and/or Sean Chercover.  At the very least you will be scouring bars to find out where these two guys hang out to listen to what has to be some lively conversation.
