While we were glued to our TV sets yesterday watching Bears vs. Packers game, Go Bears!,  did you know that Brett’s wife, Deanna, fought her own battle. Diagnosed at 35, Deanna has thus far triumphed over this disease.  She is a great spokesperson for this disease and the need for those under forty to be aware.

Deanna has a new book out titled, Don’t Bet Against Me, and a new foundation to continue to battle this disease.  Hope Foundation is dedicated to helping those  http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Bet-against-Me-Beating/dp/141431907X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-3250599-2297703?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1191851513&sr=8-1

This is just one of the many books out there about breast cancer.  It is October and that is breast cancer awareness month and we at 24/8 Book Club always want you to remember the magic found inside of a book so why not combine the two.   We will bring you more books during the month that touch on breast cancer.

In the meantime visit the Hope Foundation website, http://www.deannafavre4hope.com/hopefoundation/about+the+hope+foundation/default.asp to learn more about Deanna’s story and this wonderful foundation she has begun.

One of our favorite authors is Laura Caldwell, and what a treat to see her byline in the October issue of  Chicago magazine. http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/October-2007/Crossing-Over/ Laura’s friend and fellow author, Jenniffer Weigel, has her new book STAY TUNED hitting the bookstores this month.  www.staytunedwithjen.com  Communication is definitely the message.

If you want to see Jenniffer she will be a Transitions Book Place on Friday night, October 5th, http://www.transitionsbookplace.com/tbauthorevents/weigel.html

This is the weekend ( Oct 6 -7th) for the Avon breast cancer walk. Two days 20 miles each day .www.walk.avonfoundation.org     If  you are traveling to New York this weekend, and need a book to read on the plane, Dear Stranger, Dearest Friend by Laney Katz Becker www.dearstranger.com is the one to take. It may be a novel told through emails, but the story mirrors that of my dear friend Karen. After  her diagnosis, she was put in contact with another women cancer survivor, and their emails were an important part of her medical and personal recovery.  Women together are always powerful.
