To write or not to write in your book

There was a wonderful interview in the Chicago Tribune  for Studs Terkle’s 95th birthday.  The interviewer went in with a pristine copy of one of  Studs’ book.  Stud asked him if he had read it, “of course, I loved it,” exclaimed the interviewer.  Let me show you a book that has been read, and with that Stud went to his bookshelf, took down a book, that was underlined, filled with margin notes etc.  That’s how you read a book!

I laughed because I could  remember seeing  Falise’s face  blanch when I talked about underlining in a book.  I think paperback books are part of a conversation,  and I want to talk back to it, make comments, and  remember great lines.  How do you read  your books?

Fun with Books

I can’t remember a time in my adult life when I was enjoying books as much as I am today. I don’t know if it is the excitement of 24/8 or the fun books I am reading but I am just thrilled.

There are many distractions I enjoy, and for those of you that know me I don’t think we need to spell those out. However, I am finding little by little I just want to pick up the book and finish another chapter.  I took a walk today and read while I was walking and thought I might try that again tomorrow. Okay, I don’t recommend this if you get motion sickness or in a heavy traffic area but it sure felt great, it was something I did quite a bit when I was younger.

I hope our 24/8 community will find the same magic if you have not felt this in years.  It is a great feeling.  Okay, I have to go now and finish the next chapter.  The book is an upcoming 24/8 Oil and Vinegar book so you will be seeing it soon.

Toodles,

FJP

Falise introduced herself to me because of a book, and now, I have a significant new friend. Never underestimate the power of  a book.  We are looking forward to meeting and talking to other women who enjoy books, talking about books, buying books, or looking at or collecting books.  The art of the book, and the  word of blog.  This is going to be fun.

P.S., I just read a statisic that teens between 13 and 18 have an averge of 52 firends on thier IM buddy list.  I would have rather 13 friends, and 52 books, that I am looking forward to read. Obviously, I am not a teen.

It has been an amazing March for 24/8, first the launch of the website and then the launch of the blog.  I still cannot believe I have known JoAnne for less then a year.  But truth be told, our first meeting lasted for eight hours and ended with the plan to take 24/8 to the next level and us getting kicked out of our meeting spot.

But the hard work has been worth it and now it is time to have fun.  We want to invite everyone to participate with us to build this site, we cannot do it alone.  You can email us or blog with us, share a book, a great place to read or books news we can’t wait to hear from you.

Our virtual destination is dishing up books 24/8 and immediate seating is always available. Come to 24/8 as often as you can, we are going to be continuously updating the content and we know you will enjoy it.

Thank you to our wonderful family and friends, without you guys we would not be here today.
